Do you have crooked, crowded, or gapped teeth? Are you self-conscious about your overbite? These issues can be corrected with orthodontics at Precision Dentistry. A recent research study confirmed that people with a beautiful smile were perceived as being happier, more attractive, and more successful in their careers. Dr. Javod. Gol offers both traditional metal braces and Invisalign® to help our patients achieve a straighter, more beautiful smile so they can take on the world with confidence.
The Importance of a Straight Smile
The majority of individuals who seek orthodontic treatment do so because they want more attractive teeth. While this is certainly a primary objective, it is also important to understand that a straighter smile is also a healthier one. For example, in addition to making you more self-assured, orthodontic treatment can also:
- Reduce the risk of tooth decay and gum disease: When the teeth are crooked, crowded, or overlapped, they are much more difficult to clean. Even the most diligent brushing and flossing cannot remove bacteria in hard-to-reach areas. Straight teeth significantly reduce your risk for cavities and gum disease.
- Decrease the risk for tooth injury: If the teeth are out of alignment, they are more susceptible to damage. This is especially true for protruding upper front teeth. Orthodontics can bring the teeth into their proper positions and help prevent trauma associated with falls, accidents, and sports injuries.
- Prevent tooth erosion: An unbalanced bite can cause excessive pressure to wear down the tooth enamel. When bite forces are equalized across the entire dental arch, it can prevent erosion and other forms of dental damage.
- Reduce symptoms of TMJ disorder: The teeth, gums, jaw joints, and surrounding structures all work together for lasting oral health. When one element is not working properly, it can lead to more serious complications. If the teeth are out of alignment, it can have a direct impact on the temporomandibular joints (TMJs). As your jaws try to overcompensate for the problem, the surrounding muscles and ligaments can become sore and inflamed. Straight teeth help prevent headaches, jaw pain, and other symptoms associated with TMJ disorder.
Many teens and adults avoid orthodontic treatment because they don’t like the look of metal braces. Fortunately, there is another option available. Invisalign is the leading alternative to braces and has been widely used since its inception in 1997. This innovative system uses a series of clear, removable thermoplastic trays to guide the teeth gradually.
Before beginning Invisalign treatment, Dr. Gol will take digital impressions of your teeth. These images will then be sent to a trusted Invisalign dental lab, where your new aligners will be fabricated according to your unique anatomy.
To achieve the desired results, patients should wear their aligner trays at least 22 hours a day, removing them only when eating, drinking, or cleaning the teeth. Approximately every two weeks, you will switch out the current set of trays for the next one in the sequence. Like traditional braces, treatment with Invisalign typically takes about 18 to 24 months.
